Dr. Rayham performs Fat Transfer procedures in his offices Brooklyn or New York. This procedure generally lasts from one to five hours. The operation is done under local anesthesia with twilight sedation. The first step in the fat transfer process is the removal of fat tissue via a procedure known as liposuction. Both the area from which the fat is taken and the treatment site are anesthetized with local anesthetic. Entry points are made to insert a narrow tube called a cannula directly into fat pockets. The cannula gently loosens and removes fat cells. The fat is then purified to prepare it for injection. Injections are strategically placed in different layers and different parts of the body and face to achieve the desired results. There are no incisions needed to perform this part of the treatment.

Patients are up and around immediately following fat injections. Right after the operation you may experience some pain associated with the surgery, which can be controlled with medication. Some swelling and bruising at the treatment site may occur. Upon discharge you will have prescriptions for pain medication that you will take as needed, and antibiotics that you will need to take for several days to decrease chances of infection.
