Plastic Surgeon Dr. Rayham performs Lumenis Active FX, Reliant Fraxel Re:Pair fractionated CO2 resurfacing treatments and traditional Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing procedures in his offices in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Staten Island, New York. This procedure is usually done in an office setting with local anesthetic cream and possible mild sedation. Face is cleansed of oils and an anesthetic ointment is applied. The laser is then used to ablate various layers of skin in a controlled manner until the appropriate depth of skin is reached.

Laser Skin Resurfacing procedure may cause some swelling redness and oozing. You may experience slight discomfort and redness at the treated areas which can be addressed with pain medication. The discomfort and mild swelling will subside within three to seven days of Lumenis Active FX, Reliant Fraxel Re:Pair and traditional Fraxel ® treatments and up to three weeks for conventional CO2 treatment. After completion of recovery process you skin will heal and start looking younger and healthier. Several treatments required for best result with traditional Fraxel ® laser treatment. After a traditional CO2 treatment your face will initially become very red and swollen. Oozing will be significant as well, especially first few days. You may need someone to help care for you around the house for two to three days after the procedure. Mild to moderate pain and discomfort will be controlled by pain medications. Your new skin will begin to form in about seven to ten days. The swelling will also subside in seven to ten days. Redness will gradually start to fade off over the following weeks to months. About three weeks after treatment, you may return to work and resume some of your normal activities. By then your skin will be healed enough for you to wear make-up. Appropriate sun protection is essential to avoid irregular pigmentation. The overall result of traditional CO2 laser resurfacing is dramatic and long-lasting improvement of your skin including fewer and less noticeable wrinkles, blemishes and even-toned skin. Once the skin has completely recovered and is finished peeling, you will notice a visible improvement in its’ complexion. Your skin`s appearance will continue to improve for the next four to six weeks, becoming firmer, clearer, smoother, healthier and more youthful looking. Avoiding sun exposure during heeling period is essential. Protecting your skin from the sun with adequate UVA and UVB blocks is important if you have to be outside following these peels. Often only small areas of the face, such as lower eyelids or around the mouth get treated only. This is usually done in conjunction with a face lift or other facial surgical procedures.
